Team assessment

Before & after in brief
Before engagement
A rapidly growing engineering design company had client demand, overseas expansion and a need to recruit at every level. Engineering and HR wanted technical and people development to work together. New graduates, experienced hires and established leaders needed the same culture, language and management tools. Senior people were spending too much time responding to foreseeable escalations, while delivery commitments left little room for long training programmes.
Reported after engagement
All five reported team-assessment measures increased. Capacity rose from 37% to 67%, alongside clearer communication and alignment. The academy gave internal teams a common approach to feedback, development and leadership across regions.

Team assessment

Before & after in brief
Before engagement
A successful end-to-end delivery company depended on a few highly capable senior leaders to anticipate problems and control risk. Growing demand and diversification required another level of management to step forward. Emerging leaders were used to extensive support and reassurance; senior leaders needed confidence that they could let others lead through uncertainty.
Reported after engagement
All five reported team-assessment measures increased. Alignment and execution both reached 92%, and relationships rose from 43% to 89%. The work focused on developing leaders who could plan, adapt and take ownership, with senior leaders coaching them as they did so.

Reported learning transfer

Before & after in brief
Before engagement
A multinational organisation wanted its technical content to reach new leaders more effectively. Workshops needed to engage participants, help them apply subject expertise and prepare them for the leadership and management demands of high-pressure project work.
Reported after engagement
Reported learning transfer increased from 52% to 93%. The working relationship has continued for more than ten years. The measure describes reported learning transfer and is separate from the five-area team assessment used in other cases.

Team assessment · After 120 days

Before & after in brief
Before engagement
Technically excellent leaders were keeping projects moving by working longer hours and covering for stressed teams. Bottlenecks had formed at each level. Technical directors needed to lead teams and coach managers; senior leaders needed room for business development and strategy. Long meetings produced unclear actions, while some leaders protected their own P&Ls by holding on to engineering talent rather than sharing it.
Reported after engagement
After the 120-day intensive, all five reported team-assessment measures had increased. Relationships rose from 37% to 72% and capacity from 32% to 65%. Monthly virtual groups continued the development through the year.

Within three months · ongoing target: 55 minutes

Before & after in brief
Before engagement
Project concerns were not reaching the right people early enough. Less experienced leaders could be led by suppliers, and design changes agreed in one discipline caused problems elsewhere. Meetings were long, expensive and unclear about purpose, ownership and the decisions needed to protect delivery and margin.
Reported after engagement
Average meeting duration fell from 1 hour 43 minutes to 1 hour 12 minutes within three months, alongside clearer actionable outcomes. The ongoing target was 55 minutes. Employees reported greater engagement and confidence that leaders would listen first and give solution-focused feedback. Project-risk and client-satisfaction scores rose by at least 23% in every assessed area after six months.

Team assessment

Before & after in brief
Before engagement
APAC teams in a global engineering business were struggling to consistently meet the design standards expected by their UK colleagues. The knowledge-transfer gap called for better feedback and mentoring. Senior engineering leaders and business support staff were travelling to the region for extended periods to troubleshoot problems, putting the emphasis on triage rather than building local capability.
Reported after engagement
Communication increased from 27% to 63%, and relationships from 31% to 58%. The business also reported lower spending on extended troubleshooting visits by senior engineering leaders and business support staff.
