Team assessment

Before & after in brief
Before engagement
A rapidly growing engineering design company had client demand, overseas expansion and a need to recruit at every level. Engineering and HR wanted technical and people development to work together. New graduates, experienced hires and established leaders needed the same culture, language and management tools. Senior people were spending too much time responding to foreseeable escalations, while delivery commitments left little room for long training programmes.
Reported after engagement
All five reported team-assessment measures increased. Capacity rose from 37% to 67%, alongside clearer communication and alignment. The academy gave internal teams a common approach to feedback, development and leadership across regions.

Team assessment

Before & after in brief
Before engagement
A successful end-to-end delivery company depended on a few highly capable senior leaders to anticipate problems and control risk. Growing demand and diversification required another level of management to step forward. Emerging leaders were used to extensive support and reassurance; senior leaders needed confidence that they could let others lead through uncertainty.
Reported after engagement
All five reported team-assessment measures increased. Alignment and execution both reached 92%, and relationships rose from 43% to 89%. The work focused on developing leaders who could plan, adapt and take ownership, with senior leaders coaching them as they did so.

Reported learning transfer

Before & after in brief
Before engagement
A multinational organisation wanted its technical content to reach new leaders more effectively. Workshops needed to engage participants, help them apply subject expertise and prepare them for the leadership and management demands of high-pressure project work.
Reported after engagement
Reported learning transfer increased from 52% to 93%. The working relationship has continued for more than ten years. The measure describes reported learning transfer and is separate from the five-area team assessment used in other cases.

More about the work.

Why capacity gets stuckTalent, growth and the pressure on your people

The people behind your growth

More projects. More pressure.
Who is ready to lead?

As data centre projects grow, the same experienced people cannot carry every decision. Others need the confidence, judgement and relationships to take responsibility.

We work on the moments that make the difference: handing over responsibility, asking a better question and speaking up while there is still time to act.

01

The same experts are stretched across every project.

Questions and decisions keep finding their way back to a few people. Help others build the judgement to take on more, with the right support.

02

Great engineers are becoming first-time leaders.

A new title brings new conversations. Give people practice in delegating, giving feedback and leading the colleagues who used to be their peers.

03

The knowledge is there. It needs to travel.

A document can record the answer. Mentoring helps someone understand how an expert reached it, and when a different answer might be needed.

04

Good work is getting lost between teams.

Design, construction, commissioning and operations need clear handovers. Agree who owns the next step and make it easier to raise a concern early.

05

Your people are asking what comes next.

Give them useful feedback, a clear path forward and chances to try greater responsibility. Make development part of the work they already do.

Our perspective on the talent shortage

You cannot recruit your way out of every capacity problem.

Develop the people you have and help them work well together. Share expertise, reduce avoidable escalation and give each level the judgement and support to take responsibility. Creating capacity means improving how the team works, including protecting time to learn and recover.

Even excellent processes depend on people. Companies thrive when developing their people is part of the purpose.

The expertise behind InspiredSTEMCoaching, behavioural science, professional sport and the British Army

The expertise we bring

Built on experience of people under pressure.

How do you make a decision with incomplete information? Reset after a setback? Help someone speak up? We draw on coaching, behavioural science, professional sport and British Army experience to work on the situations your people face.

We select specialists for their fit with your organisation and the content, and their availability. Your proposal identifies the people delivering the work and the part each will play, so you can assess the fit before committing.

British Army specialists

Clear intent, sound judgement and coordinated action. Practise assessing a situation, deciding within your authority and adapting as conditions change.

Professional sports experts

Preparation, shared standards and clarity about each person’s role. Build the habits of practice and debrief that help skilled people perform together.

Sports psychologists

Attention, confidence and emotional control under pressure. Help people manage setbacks, reset their focus and stay effective when the stakes rise.

Behavioural science experts

Strong relationships and better decisions. Draw on behavioural economics to examine incentives, assumptions and biases that shape whether people ask for help, share expertise and speak up.

Relationships make the work possible

Bad project news should travel as fast as good news.

That takes psychological safety in everyday work: being able to ask for help, admit uncertainty and challenge a decision. We help leaders respond constructively, mentors share judgement and teams agree how to share people and resources across competing priorities.

Questions before you start?Team Intensive Day, delivery and working with Inspired

Before you decide

What would help
your team move forward?

You do not need a finished brief. Tell us what is getting in the way of delivery, and we will help you choose a useful starting point.

Enquire about a Team Intensive Day
What will we work on?

How do you communicate? What happens when you feel challenged? What does a colleague need from a conversation? Transforming Team Communication explores these questions through five themes: foundations of a high-performing team, Your Leadership Voice, Defence Systems, the Communication Code and 5 Gears.

Use discussion and practice to work on trust, shared priorities and everyday conversations. Explore how focus, connection and recovery support sustainable performance. A sponsor conversation and team pulse set the focus; a practical action plan and sponsor check-in help you keep practising.

See the day in detail
How many people can attend, and where?

5–30 participants, depending on the format. Onsite or virtual, with onsite sessions at your premises or a venue. Both formats use interactive exercises, behavioural science and game-based learning designed to keep people engaged and help them apply the learning.

Do we need to commit to a longer programme?

The Team Intensive Day is a standalone engagement. Use the day and the follow-up to decide whether further support would be useful.

Who will work with our team?
